Amazon Associates First Failure
First Failure with Amazon Associates… Ahem…
I primarily write in my native language, but I also occasionally translate blog posts despite my limited skills. Since I was already translating, I decided to try Amazon Associates (which, like Coupang Partners, closely follows Amazon’s model) as well. The outcome wasn’t great, so I’m planning to share my rather disappointing review. As you’ll see, this post is essentially just a rambling account, but I hope it serves as a reference for what happened. In the future, if my second attempt is more successful, I plan to provide more tips and information.

- First Failure with Amazon Associates… Ahem…

Amazon Associates has a different interface compared to Coupang Partners, but both have their own pros and cons.
If you don’t generate any earnings for 180 days, your account will be deleted… Please be mindful of this.
Initially, signing up for Amazon Associates was quite cumbersome. From what I remember, signing up for Coupang Partners was much easier, but Amazon’s process involves several steps. Fortunately, you don’t need to be fluent in English to complete the sign-up. At first, I thought it would be straightforward, so I took my time translating and adding Amazon links at a relaxed pace. However, I was shocked when I received an email stating that if there was no activity for 180 days, the account would be deleted. This activity isn’t just about adding links; it means actual transactions. Seeing that email was a shock, and despite my attempts to rush some translations before the deadline, I had minimal traffic. Eventually, my account was unceremoniously deleted as the deadline passed…
The interface was simpler than expected. While Coupang Partners requires you to search for products and generate links within the Partners page, Amazon Associates adds a link generation option directly on the Amazon product page, making it easy to create links right there. This approach can be seen as more straightforward. However, Coupang Partners also has a decent interface, and for managing links and tracking earnings, it might even be more convenient.
Of course, this is due to the different usage methods. For instance, in foreign markets, there are many affiliate marketing plugins for WordPress, as well as various web services. Amazon’s system requires only the link, while tracking clicks and other metrics is managed through these plugins. Therefore, if you can easily create product links, you can manage the rest on your site. On the other hand, Coupang Partners does not require a separate link plugin. It is easier to manage within the Partners page. However, this can be inconvenient for those who prefer to handle everything within their site. Thus, each system has its own advantages and disadvantages.
In fact, I initially took Amazon affiliate marketing somewhat lightly. Was this result therefore expected?
I apologize if the entire article seems more like idle chatter and less informative for those looking for information. Nonetheless, my first experience with Amazon Associates was a complete failure. Earning money through a blog is definitely not easy. I must admit, there were some aspects I initially underestimated.
As some of you might know, many people abroad create their sites to look almost like Amazon storefronts, with interfaces that rival actual shopping sites, and they simply use Amazon links. Recently, Google has been updating its algorithms to significantly lower the rankings of sites that are just cluttered with affiliate links. Anyway, the 180-day rule was quite shocking. It was probably mentioned in the terms and conditions, but I didn’t read the terms, especially since they were in English…
Anyway, I plan to finish translating the various products I reviewed and then focus on translating the WordPress-related posts on my blog, which tend to attract much higher traffic from abroad. Once I’ve completed the translation of the major articles on my blog, I’ll attempt a second challenge. I hope that by then, my visitor numbers will have increased, though I’m not sure how it will turn out. By the way, is it possible to sign up twice with the same email? That would be quite problematic… Anyway, this concludes my completely failed, and frankly, inadequately attempted first challenge with Amazon Associates.
